The Western Oregon University Women’s+ Rugby team is quickly becoming one of the premiere Women’s+ rugby programs in the Pacific Northwest. Founded in 2004, WOU Women’s+ Rugby quickly made its mark, securing a spot in nationals during its inaugural season and making regular postseason appearances since. The Women’s+ designation is increasingly prevalent in the rugby world, welcoming and providing an opportunity to play for individuals who identify as transgender or nonbinary.
In addition to their excellent play on the pitch, WOU Women’s+ Rugby team members are stars in the classroom as well. The current roster boasts five WOU Honor Roll members, which requires students to enroll in at least 12 credits and earn a 3.5 GPA.
The future is bright for WOU Women’s+ Rugby. The women’s 7s team has been invited to participate in a qualifying tournament at Boise State University in April. The winner of that tournament – and the Wolves are considered a contender – will compete at the national championships in Maryland. The Fall 2024 15s season promises to offer excitement and opportunity for postseason play as well.
Help us reach our goal of $10,000 this year on Giving Day! Funds will go towards needed equipment and to help cover team travel costs. Your gift helps to keep the Women’s+ Rugby team continue to build on its strong foundation.
